Back Up those Files… and I am Serious… Trying Losing All Your Files…

I wrote a post back on this very topic in February right after my computer had died but I was fortunate that I had a complete backup of my computer. I lost nothing but time and energy restoring files and programs. I may have talked about this in the past but I does worth repeating…
Back Up Your Computer Files!
Options:
- Burn to CD/DVD – Only downside you have to remember and store
- Seagate or Other External Hard Drive Backup – http://www.seagate.com/ – Downside in a major disaster like flood or fire your computer and it could both be destroyed – Costs from $75-$300 depending on how much store you and your family needs
- Online Backup File Services – www.Carbonite.com or www.IronMountain are just two of many, many examples – Downside you have to pay a month or yearly fee to store the data – Costs from $4o – $100 per year once again depending on how much store you and your family needs and you have to depend on them to keep you files safe
All of the options have good points and downsides. No matter what you decide, just decide to so something and save all that information.

What’s in a File Name? Clean up the Computer and Filing Files Fast as part of Unclutter Your Life and Business Summer Challenge

Let’s just go today… (see Here for Yesterday’s steps 1 &2)
Step 3 – Rename files so that you will know what they are and use Capitals and dashes to help to be better able to read the names.
Example: Which can you read better?
samanthaezinearticle1
or
Samantha-Ezine-Article-1
It seems really simple but so effective in location items.
Now, I would never name the file above that way. I would name it based on the article.
Example: Which would you remember what the file is about better?
Samantha-Ezine-Article-1
Or
Ezine-Article-How-to-Save-5-Minute-in-Morning
Take the time now to rename files and get in the habit of naming them properly in the first place. This will save you soooo much time. I promise.
