7 Simple Time Saves when Preparing for an Out of Town Conference…

As I plan to head to another amazing conference in Las Vegas next week, I thought I would share with you all my master planning and time management strategies I use for conferences:
- Get your babysitters/others lined up BEFORE I buy a plane ticket to the conference or event. When you have kids, you do have to consider them first. It is never a good idea not to have their plan in place first.
- Stay whenever at all possible at the hotel of the conference or as close as possible. It may be a bit more expensive but the time it will save you can add up quick.
- GET Business Cards in advance of the event. Sounds silly but people forget business cards at these type of events all the time. It is critical to meet and connect with likeminded business entrepreneurs. Have a card with your picture on it, your email address, your best phone number and the city you live in! Leave the back of the cards blank so you can write on them and give more information.
- Book as much business as possible into the trip. I have taken this idea right out of Dan Kennedy’s “No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs” (a must read book if you have not yet). I don’t just go to conferences – I plan meetings with people, book meals, even filming times. I make the most of the time away from my family focused on business.
- Fly in the day before the event. I have made this mistake a few times – getting to a new city the day the conference is starting already tired and nothing has even started yet.
- Get some extra rest while at the event. Time to yourself including sleep can be invigorating and helps to recharge the batteries. See if you can squeeze in 8 hours while you are out of town and feel refreshed every day.
- Plan your clothes a week in advance. Nothing like packing for a business conference to find out that favorite suit needs cleaned 3 hours before leaving for the airport. Also think the weather where you are going. It may be cold where you are but in the 90s where you are going…
Have a great time and enjoy the experience.
