About Samantha
Who is Samantha Gardner?
My name is Samantha Gardner. I am one of the new professional Mompreneurs. Yes – I am a professional who does work from home with a preschooler. I currently live in south Florida, USA with my husband and son both named Jack.
So how did I become a specialist in helping mom entrepreneurs take control of their time and help getting them organized and moving forward?
No, I don’t have a degree in organizational management or anything like that. I got my lessons and gained the skills through real life.
I actually have a degree from Penn State University in Landscape Architecture that I did use. When I graduated from the University, I packed up car and moved to south Florida to take a position in a large land planning and development firm. I did not know a living soul in the area – it was an adventure.
Quickly, I was thrown into managing, planning and organizing large scale developments, golf courses and resorts – many times without much of a plan other than it needs to break ground in so many months. I was left with a massive team of people to organize from other architects, engineers and the property owners themselves keeping government regulations and deadlines also in the picture.
I realized very fast – I needed to get good at organizing, having a plan of attack that could change in a moment’s notice and the ability to communicate with the entire team online and offline to make it happen.
By doing this, I got noticed and started moving up the ladder rapidly. So rapidly in fact that within five years, I had opened up my own consulting practice going into firms and helping them make things happen quickly and efficiently.
Here’s the funny thing thought – by the age of 29 I had hit the highest level I was ever going to be with my degree without opening up my own larger scale firm – a larger version of my consulting business only with more headaches. Now what? I spend years in school to hit a roof before I was 30. It was frustrating and I was not sure what I wanted to do next…
What Did I Do Next…
When my son was born right before my 30th birthday, my husband Jack and I were blessed to be able to allow me to put my consulting business on hold for a year or two. I became part of the growing number of professional women who were torn between family and going back to work my successful consulting business.
It was during this time, I decided to move towards a business that gave me more control than my consulting business could offer me. Something I could do from home and be a more active participant in raising my son. It is something that appealed to me and I was ready for a change. But how?
I tried some of the mommy work from home things, but they just did not work for me. It took some time to find something that I could do from home other than landscape architecture. Soon I started using my time management and organization skills – a began creating my own future and businesses.
