Books Can Fill Your Life or Overwhelm It – Unclutter Your Life and Business Day 13

Up until recently, I kept every book I read and lots of them.  They are a huge part of my life and my husband’s.  We are both huge readers and average 2 books per week.  Of course, we have some different interest so many of the books are unique to each of us.

This past Christmas, my husband bought me a Kindle (book reader) and I madly fell in love with it.  I thought that I would miss the pages of a book – I don’t.  It is so much easier to take along and to read 2 books at the same time and never lose my place.

My point is not to buy a book reader – it is what I noticed after I got one.  You really only go back to a small percentage of your books to re-read and reference.  The rest are just taking up prime real estate in your home and office.  I still have a lot of books in my house but I was able to purge about 50%.

So today, get out an old box and fill it up with books you know you are never going to read again and plan on donating them away. Feel good about sharing the joy of reading with someone else.

Also – think about to a non-profit charity for the donation.  You would be shocked at the value of your items for tax deductions purposes.  I have found a great free online calculator to determine what items are worth when donated– TurboTax Its DeductibleBe sure to get a donation receipt for tax purposes.

P.S.  Did you remember to pick up the dry cleaning from last week?

    Samantha,

    Great subject.

I have entertained the idea of a Kindle for a while now. Just haven't taken the plunge as of yet.

My dilemma? Because I'm such a “pack rat” by nature when it comes to books, how would I ever overcome my experience of reading a book. You see, I enjoy the smell of the pages and the feel of the cover while I throw myself into the storyline.

But I think sanity will rule because my bookshelf can only handle so many books and I like your recommendation of sharing the joy of reading with others.

Needless to say, not if but when I purchase my first Kindle, I can thank your post here for inspiring me

    Thanks Samantha
