Time Managment Tips for Mom – Save Time in the Kitchen
Posted on 02. Sep, 2009 by Samantha Gardner in Life Management
Do you feel like there is not enough time in the day to do it all? Then honey walks in the door and asks “What’s for dinner?”
I can relate. The last thing you thought about was dinner – you have been busy at work, with the kids, working with prospects and customers… let alone shopping for and preparing a healthy meal for your family.
So, I found a little short cut I want to share with you all called Once a Month Cooking (OAMC for short).
I understand you skepticism here… but keep reading…
The first time I hear of Once a Month Cooking – I thought – right. I only need to cook once a month for my family.
Then I started to read the eBook- The Frugal Mom’s Guide to Once a Month Cooking and I was convinced anyone could do this.
Let me start off by saying that you will have to prepare a meal every night for my family.
Here is the catch – You only have to heat up or put an already homemade PREPARED meal in the oven to cook. The main point about Once A Month Cooking (OAMC) is that you do all the messy prep work all in one day. This is the part that takes the longest and is the pain to clean up every night.
Every morning you look at the calendar you prepared when you made all the food, go to the freeze and pull out dinner from the list. It takes typically the day to defrost in the refrigerator.
A half an hour or so (depending on the meal) you pop it in the oven and make a side dish or two.
That is it. No major clean-up every night. It can cut down my clean up time after dinner down to 10 minutes tops. What a major time saver!
In addition to the time savings, the cost savings are much larger than you would propably expected. Shopping and then cooking all the major items such as beef and chicken can allow you to purchase in bulk with no waste. In the first month alone – I personally saved over 30% on my overall month grocery bill.
Now, we still order pizza from time to time and eat out on occasion but it is great to know that a healthy dinner is already in the freezer ready to go.
If you already do OAMC, please let us know what books you use and how it works for your family.
