What is Time Management Really?

I recently had an acquaintance of my post a video about how he did not care for time management. This is what he said and my response…
Being the time management lady, I get a lot of people thinking that time management is making a to-do list, prioritizing it, doing only that minute by minute of the day and ignoring all else. I will agree with you – this is not an effective or efficient way to manage your time or your life. That is dated. But that is not true time management to me.
Managing your time to me is about focusing on what is important to you – family, community, business or whatever. Knowing what you want out of life and making sure you have a way to get there. It is about looking at the big picture not this hour. It about creating a base plan that is flexible and gives you freedom while focusing you what you desire.
It is about setting up some chucks of time to pursue one’s desired outcomes, but having the ability to go in new directions and not being focused on the clock all the time. As we all know, 20% of our actions will give us 80% of our results in all aspects of our life – so changing course is just part of life.
In conclusion, time management should not be about checking off a long, prioritized to-do list. I see it personally as having a purpose-driven action plan as the driving force of my life that gives me certainty of what I want and how I am making it a reality. Simple. Clear. Valued Based.
Don’t worry – he e-mailed back and we are in agreement.
What do you think time management is?
