When Time Management for the Day Goes Right Out the Window

You have your time management plan in place for the whole day. You even planned it out the night before. You knew you were going to get so much done tomorrow until you got the 1 am wake up call from a sick child.
If you have kids, you know what I am talking about. The yelling in the middle of the night – “Mom, I’m sick”. You now spend the rest of the night up and down with your child getting them fluids, special toys and hugs of comfort. Getting very little sleep yourself since you are listen for them the rest of the night.
Heck – it would even be a sick spouse or pet that you do the same for.
So the next morning, no school for the kids and you will be spending the entire day with them. There goes your time management plan for the day. Don’t stress. It happens.
Here are some tips to work at home with a sick child so you can get some stuff done for your business or around the house:
- A long soak in the bathtub for the kid. This is great for getting fevers down and with plenty of toys, your child can keep busy for quite some time. Never leave the child alone in the tub, but it a great place to sit and type on a laptop or working on paperwork. I have even made phone calls.
- Playdough on a large table. It keeps those little fingers busy without running around. Let them have some cool safe kitchen utentials like a spoon or spatula for extra fun. Work on the other end of the large table. Or if the floor can be easily cleaned up – get some housework done.
- Movie and TVs. Many parents do limit the amount of TV or show that a child sees in a day. However, when they are sick and really just needing to rest – showing extra shows is fine (OK – that is my opinion). Even put in a long movie or two depending on the child’s age. If they are resting on the family room couch, you can get tons done. Business or personal. Check on them on a regular bases or work in the room with them.
- When all else fails – Car Ride. Many kids love the car even when they are not felling well. I do not recommend if your child is vomiting thought. Many kids are great in the car and you can make phone calls. Many kids will even fall asleep.
Now, when your child takes a nap – try to take a nap too. You do not want to end up sick as well and with less sleep that is much more likely. Also, remember to take your vitamins and a little extra Vitamin C would not hurt.
Have a time management plan for the day is great but you have to adapt when things come up. Take care of yourself, your child and try not to stress out to much about it.
Thanks for visiting again.
